About David
I have been counselling now for over twenty five years, coming from a people-orientated background in customer service, sales and pastoring. As a counsellor in Kettering, Northants, I offer an initial 30 minute free consultation with no commitment from you for further counselling. You can then decide if you can trust me to help you find solutions and resolve difficulties in your situation.
My aim is to give empathy, unconditional acceptance and honesty, having walked through difficult times myself. My first wife died of breast cancer at age 34 leaving me to raise a 2 year old daughter. Bereavement, relationship issues, depression, anxiety and anger have all, at some time or other, been part of my own walk.
As a father now to a large family of seven children (incl. five step-children going through teenage years) I know some of the pain, turmoil and conflicts of family life. Marriage counselling, couples counselling, family counselling and relationship counselling are of special interest to me and I have gained valuable personal experience in these areas.
In addition to having my own private counselling practice in Kettering, I counsel prisoners at H.M.Prison Wellingborough and counselled for years at a G.P.’s surgery in Corby. I am CRB checked and spent many years working with difficult 16-25 year olds for a national charity organisation in Kettering. I also do family counselling with troubled families for Social Services.
As an ‘Integrative’ counsellor, I counsel from both Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches, where necessary using Cognitive Behaviourial Therapy. A university graduate with a BA Hons. in Modern History and International Relations, I also hold the AQA Advanced Diploma in Counselling, and am an Accredited Member of the professional body, The National Counselling Society. My in-depth knowledge of the Myers-Briggs Psychometric Profile can be used to help assess character/personality types. Being fully insured, I also receive regular personal supervision.
I have a heart for people and a deep compassion for those experiencing difficult times. Having heard many things behind closed doors, my desire is to help and encourage individuals, couples and families to find a way forward in their lives. I can help to provide you with some solutions to the problems you face.
